Young Funds Institute in Own Honor

The politicization of Florida higher education under Jeb Bush has given the state a former mayor-UNF- and lieutenant governor-FAU- with no prior experience in universities as university presidents.

Now the new government institute at St. Petersburg College is poised to receive $5-million in state money thanks to a lobbying effort by Rep. C.W. Bill Young [R]. It will be named the C.W. Bill Young Government Institute
SPC president, Carl Kuttler, says he has the perfect candidate to run the place: Young himself. Salary suggested is $182,000.

When asked about the possibility of being paid more than $180,000 by an institute he [Young] asked state officials to fund, he compared the figure to the lobbying world, which pays far more.

The Washington Post gave Young a 'Narcissism Run Amok Award for 2005'award for the naming of C.W. Bill Young Conference Center right there in the Mel Sembler Building in Rome when Young was chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.
