BOCC Replaces Cow-Tipping with Paintball in Hillsborough County

Owners of the Legends Paintball Complex on County Road 672 in Balm in southern Hillsborough County want to change their land designation to commercial so they can create a bigger paintball area.

However, opponents say the extra paintball gunfire will disrupt the rural peace and quiet."What I hear is we've got a group who has objected to it, but there seems to be a larger contingency of folks who support the paintball activities," said Hillsborough County district 4 commissioner Republican Al Higginbotham.

At the AUGUST 7, 2007 Hillsborough BOCC LAND USE meeting Commision Kevin White noted:

I THINK IN TODAY'S CLIMATE OUR YOUNG PEOPLE NEED SO MANY DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES THAT TO KEEP THEM ACTIVE AND TO KEEP THEM OCCUPIED AND KEEP THEM OUT OF TROUBLE AND OUT OF HARM'S WAY. BEFORE THE PAINTBALL ISSUE CAME UP, KIDS SAID THEIR SOURCE OUT IN THE RURAL AREA WAS COW TIPPING, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE, BUT I AM IN WHOLEHEARTED SUPPORT OF THIS CHANGE.

Paintball MOTION CARRIED 5-1, COMMISSIONER
FERLITA VOTED NO.
