Ralph Nader- Peace and Freedom Party Presidential Candidate for 2008

Ralph Nader has been selected as California's Peace and Freedom Party presidential candidate for 2008. Ralph Nader is a nationally renowned consumer rights activist whose efforts have helped create important regulatory agencies and the passage of several major laws including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Safe Drinking Water Act and the Freedom of Information Act of 1974.

Nader's running mate, Matt Gonzalez, is former San Francisco Board of Supervisors president who was narrowly defeated for mayor in 2003 after being outspent 10-1. Both nominees agree with the fundamentals of the P & F platform and bring with them a strong combination of experience, credibility, and legislative accomplishment.

A Nader administration would support peace movements in the Middle East, cut the bloated military budget and use the savings to establish a single-payer health care system, provide free education through university, and support renewable energy sources like solar, wind, geothermal, and tidal. He would end corporate personhood and corporate participation in elections, establish a Wall Street securities speculation tax, and say no to nuclear energy. He would call for labor law reform by repealing the notorious Taft-Hartley Act that keeps workers from organizing to defend their interests.

Peace and Freedom is a feminist/socialist party that has been on the California ballot since the 1960's and numbers almost 60,000 members. Previous presidential candidates have included Eldridge Cleaver (1968), Benjamin Spock (1972) and Leonard Peltier (2004).

I know this is off-topic, but I wanted to give you a heads up to some Tampa Bay Democratic Party news.

State Representative Darryl Rouson makes homophobic comments and has ties to Blackwater USA.
