Venice GOP Fears Democratic Strength

“The Democrats are out working us,” Malone, the chairman of the Republican Club of South Sarasota County told about 100 Republicans in Venice earlier today. “We lost three candidates.”

Why did Republicans lose in Venice?
Mostly, the challengers won the election because of the council's continuous approval of changes to the growth plan, the failure to listen to the residents' concerns about building height, allowing the construction of the three monster condos that greet visitors driving in from the north, not enforcing the city ordinance on Venice waterways that took 12 years to pass, and the constant condescending council attitude toward residents addressing the council on local problems. (Developers lawyers appeared to have unrestricted time limits and influence when speaking.)
