10/26/07 meeting topics covered:
NO ONE PRESENT THAT APPEARED TO WANT TO MAKE
PUBLIC COMMENT
We appreciate the work of Mrs. Townsend. We hope the other CAC members and County staff recogize the importance of informing citizens before the fact.
Agenda:
LUCIA GARSYS-THE STRATEGIC
MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES OFFICER FOR HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, "WORKS WITH PAT BEAN AS HER
STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES OFFICER, AND THAT'S A WHOLE MOUTHFUL OF WORDS, BUT WHAT THAT REALLY MEANS IS THERE ARE TARGETED INITIATIVES THAT THE ORGANIZATION
UNDERTAKES, WHETHER THEY ARE TASK FORCES, SUCH AS THE TRANSPORTATION ONE, AFFORDABLE HOUSING, OR SOME OF THE OTHERS THAT WE HAVE DONE INTERNALLY, WHETHER THEY DEAL WITH
IMPROVEMENT AND HOW WE DO SOME OF OUR CONTRACT MANAGEMENT.IT'S GENERALLY BRINGING TOGETHER A GROUP OF FOLKS FROM VARYING PERSPECTIVES AND TAKING THEM THROUGH A PROCESS.
-Transportation Task Force.
GAYE TOWNSEND: ANYWAY, WORKING WITH CITIZENS, THAT'S WHAT I'M CONCERNED ABOUT, BECAUSE I KNOW -- FOR INSTANCE, ON INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS BY DEVELOPERS, THE CITIZENS DO NOT HAVE TO BE NOTIFIED, AND I'M WORKING TO CHANGE THAT.
IT'S -- AND THAT JUST KIND OF HAPPENED.I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT, AND WHEN SOME CITIZEN WAKES UP AND SAYS, OH, GEE WHIZ, THEY'RE PUTTING SOME BIG DITCH IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, AGAIN, I THINK WE LACK WORKING WITH CITIZENS, AND I WANT THAT TO BE LOOKED AT AND CONTINUE TO BE LOOKED AT. THAT'S WHAT I'M HERE FOR IS TO LOOK OUT FOR THE BENEFITS OF
THE CITIZENS. ALSO, ON DEVELOPMENT OF THESE IMPROVEMENTS IN GREEN THE DEVELOPER IS SUPPOSED TO PAY FOR, HAVE THEY ALREADY COMMITTED THE MONEY, OR -- MY CONCERN IS WITH -- AS WE KNOW, WE ALL NEED TO LOOK AT REALITY RIGHT NOW WITH THE FORECLOSURES, THE REAL ESTATE MARKET.
THERE ARE DEVELOPMENTS PERHAPS -- I READ IN PASCO COUNTY -- THAT ARE BUILT AND NO ONE'S LIVING IN THOSE HOMES, SO HOW DO YOU SECURE THE FUNDING FROM THEM AFTER OR THEY START THE DEVELOPMENT OR WHEN?
>>BOB GORDON: WELL, LET ME SPEAK SPECIFICALLY TO THIS LIST
OF PROJECTS, AND GAYE, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT IN
TERMS OF THE DEVELOPER PROJECTS. THERE IS A -- THERE IS A GAP THERE IN HOW CITIZEN
PARTICIPATION HAPPENS. >>GAYE TOWNSEND: OH, REALLY?
[LAUGHTER]
WHICH HAS ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY'S SIDE.
