Nine Vigils to End the War To Be Held in TampaBay on 8/28

TAMPA BAY CITIZENS CALL ON BILIRAKIS, YOUNG, BROWN-WAIT TO TAKE A STAND THIS SEPTEMBER - END WAR IN IRAQ

MORE THAN 500 VIGILS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO HONOR FALLEN SOLIDERS -
--NINE PLANNED FOR TAMPA BAY--

TAMPA – On Tuesday, August 28, members of MoveOn.org Political Action councils in cities across Tampa Bay – from Sarasota to Crystal River -- will join thousands of Americans at candlelight vigils and demonstrations across the U.S. to call on Congress to vote to end the war when they come back from vacation in September. Tampa voters will stand in solidarity at Rep.Gus Bilirakis™ Temple Terrace office to ask him to follow Rep. Kathy Castor'™s lead and vote for troop withdrawal.

“It’s time for the Bush Administration to stop looking through rose-colored glasses and realize that the surge is not the answer,” said Michael Fox, Regional Coordinator for Move On's Operation Democracy. “Representatives Bilirakis, Young, Putnam, Brown-Waite must stand up in September and vote to end our role in this religious ciῶilᾠwar that we can't win. Our soldiers have done their job. Now it's time for the Iraqi people and allies in the region to preῳerve the peace , concluded Fox.

Participants in the vigil will read from a “War Toll Calendar” to honor and remember the soldiers that have died in the past year in the unwinnable religious civil war in Iraq.

Vigils like these one are part of National Take A Stand Day - a coordinated day of action to end the war initiated by the Americans Against Escalation in Iraq Coalition – to include MoveOn.org Political Action; VoteVets.org; the Service Employees International Union; True Majority and others.

National Take a Stand Day
Corner of Brandon Parkway and Lumsden Rd
Brandon, FL 33511
Description When most members of Congress get back to DC this September, what do you think they're going to remember about their August vacation? That day out on the fairway with the oil and gas lobbyists? The fat check they got from that big developer? The 100th baby they kissed?
Our job is to make sure they remember one thing: their constituents are counting on them to end the war, and if they fail, they're in trouble.
Here's why it's so important: This September, the White House is going to issue its long-awaited report on whether the "surge" is working. Then Congress will vote on war policy for the next year. The escalation hasn't worked and this could be our best chance yet to turn the tide. Make sure our representatives head back to Washington with our demands for a speedy withdrawal ringing in their ears.
