Vern Buchanan [Contested Seat in FL-13] Among Richest in Congress

Support the Christine Jennings recount fund. The GAO will scrutinize equipment used in Sarasota County, Fla., where Democrat Jennings is contesting her loss in last year’s 13th Congressional District election.
DUANE MARSTELLER reports:
After waging the most expensive campaign ever for a House seat, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan has become one of Congress' richest members.

Buchanan, a Republican car dealer who lives on Longboat Key, reported he held at least $102.7 million in assets last year, according to a recently released financial disclosure report.
That likely places him among the five wealthiest members of Congress, a spokesman for a nonprofit group that tracks political finances said Friday.
"You can certainly say at a minimum that he's one of the House of Representatives' richest members," said Massie Ritsch of the Center for Responsive Politics....
Buchanan used his wealth to succeed Katherine Harris as the 13th District representative, plowing nearly $5.5 million into his campaign. That helped make the race the costliest House campaign ever, with more than $13.1 million spent.
And more is being spent as Democrat Christine Jennings continues to contest the official election results that declared Buchanan the winner by 369 votes out of more than 338,000 cast. Jennings contends Sarasota County's electronic voting machines lost more than 18,000 votes that would have tipped the election in her favor.

Congressional investigators are probing, but it might be next year - more than halfway through Buchanan's two-year term - before the issue is resolved.
